The Legend of Zelda Fanfiction Recommendations

Does this post look familiar? If so, it's because two years ago, I did the exact same thing. And before that, I ALSO did the same thing in 2010, except I used a lot of stories from The Sacred Realm, which no longer exists, sadly. I listed off my favorite The Legend of Zelda fanfics to aid the rest of the world on their search for an excellent story.

However, key words there are "two years ago".

Not only have my tastes changed since then (I'd like to think I'm a bit better at telling a good story from a bad one now), but I've also discovered SEVERAL new stories. In all honesty, my love for fanfiction waned a bit toward the end of 2011, mostly with the release of Skyward Sword. But that doesn't mean I don't like it anymore -- it just means I'm not as active anymore. But I'm still finding new stories to read and writing stuff, so...

First off, for anyone who might not be familiar with this blog, my name on ff.net is TwilightWakerofTime, so if you're interested, go check out my own Zelda fics. I've got seven at the moment: five oneshots, two multi-chapters. I highly suggest Awakening... I love that story a lot. It gets better after chapter three. Promise. And, if you're not satisfied with the things I mention here, go ahead and check out my favorites list. It's terribly outdated -- I HATE removing things from it, and I rarely, rarely add things now, even stories I love, as I presently have extremely high standards -- but you can find some decent reads in there. A lot of what I'm going to mention will be in there, too.

Click here to read my recommendations of 2011, and here to read the list in 2010. Keep in mind, though, that I'm more experienced in the realm of fanfiction now, so these are probably the best Zelda fanfic recs you'll find from me.

These aren't going to be a ranked list like I did previously, but they will be slightly organized by my own personal enjoyment of them, with ones I like the most listed first. Also, I want to mention that I don't read slash fics often. I'm not really a huge fan of them, so I won't be including any yaoi or yuri or shonen/shojo ai or whatever the heck you call them stories here.

And with that, let's begin:

The Return and Reconciliation by Rose Zemlya - Ohhh, yes. Judging from my other lists, I'm sure you saw this coming. These two tales have been two of my favorite fanfictions for a long time now -- and for a good reason. The Return and its sequel, Reconciliation, are fantastic stories. They are some of the most-reviewed Zelda stories of all time, with The Return at 35 reviews per chapter, and Reconcilliation at an amazing 46. That's insane, considering that I would say most stories average at six or seven, perhaps ten or eleven if they're good. The Return is kind of average, honestly; I was worshipping it years ago when I first read it, but now that I'm more experienced, I'd still say I love it and I've reread it soooo many times, but the plot is actually pretty straightforward. However, what Rose excels in is really characterization. Her characters are FANTASTIC. I'm not a fan of OCs in Zelda. As a matter of fact, I generally hate them if they play major parts in the plot. But instead, Hunter, Neesha, and the many other original characters she includes are so incredibly well-written that I can't help but love them. Their personalities are clear, and the way they interact with each other and Link is just so much fun to read. The humor in this story really is something to mention, by the way. It's just so QUOTABLE! It's made me laugh out loud many times. And of course, all of this stems from her portrayal of Link. The story is in first person from Link's point of view, which isn't TERRIBLY common in the realm of Zelda fanfiction, with some third person "interludes" that tell the tale from other characters' points of view. But Link just MAKES the story! He's sarcastic, realistic, and absolutely everything a main character should be. He has flaws, but he's also very likable and has good qualities that stand out.

Reconciliation is definitely the best out of the two, though, I have to say. Like I said, The Return is just average; Reconciliation is where it gets REALLY good. It adds a touch of darkness to the plot that I really enjoy, being based in A Link to the Past. Unfortunately, she updates VERY slowly, but the chapters are usually really, really long, sooo...

I'm going to spend the whole post talking about this if I go any further, so I suggest you check it out for yourself! XD

Forgotten Demons by Celeborn00 - This is new, hmm? It wasn't included on my previous lists. And I have to say I totally regret that I didn't read this soon enough to put it on them. This story is FANTASTIC. I almost read it a long time ago, interestingly enough -- meaning it was almost the second amazing fanfiction I read, the first being Hero of Wolves (which I'll talk about later). It was on the Hero of Wolves's author's favorites list, and I read the first chapter, but mistook Demon for an OC, and you know how I feel about OCs... XD

Actually, Demon is Link. The plot of this revolves around how Link has become corrupt and now fights in these gladiator-style arenas in a country named Aratia, before he teams up with Zelda and they... well, go on a quest, I guess. I don't want to spoil too much. ;) It's dark, it's violent, it's somewhat overdramatic (especially early on, though the author has grudgingly acknowledged that), but I love it to death. Best of all, compared to most of the stories I'm going to mention, it's updated pretty frequently. I just get SO excited when I see an update for this story in my inbox -- especially now, since a MAJOR plot twist happened earlier, and I'm waiting to see how that will resolve. I recommend this to anyone who likes a good darkfic like me. It's so good. Their writing is okay at the beginning, but it becomes astounding near the end. The plot is amazing and their OCs aren't annoying. If you don't mind something dark, please read it. This person deserves so much more praise than they are given for this masterpiece.

Insomnia by tikitikirevenge - I'm not sure why I put this one third. Even if these aren't officially "ranked," the above two stories are my favorites of all time, so this spot probably should be something at least as original and exciting. Yet I'm mentioning a novelization of Majora's Mask. How can that be interesting and new...?

Oh, I dare you to read this and you'll know.

Insomnia is basically the awesome version of Majora's Mask. Now every single time I play the game, I think of this story. It's unavoidable. They've managed to blend in their own realistic style into this very surreal game flawlessly by seamlessly adding in almost unnoticeable rules about complicated things like time travel. The description is fabulous, and both Link and Tatl, again, are SO amusing to read about in their interactions. Their personalities contrast so well that it provides for plenty of humor, and the constant references to Ocarina of Time make it even better. Tatl's always trying to learn about Link's mysterious past, and for some reason, that's very entertaining.

If you're looking for a long, serious-but-not-too-serious fic based on Majora's Mask, check this out. It's really worth it.

Hit List by zestycrouton - This was number three on my 2011 list. And I still love it. Like I said, I was kind of skeptical at first, as I'm sure any new reader would be. High school fics are among the biggest clichés in the realm of fanfiction, and Zelda ones can be notoriously awful, considering it's a fantasy world. But this blends Hyrule's lore perfectly with modern times. It's really impressive. You won't think much of it in the first few chapters, of course -- it'll seem pretty average. However, one thing you will notice is that every single character in it is based on a Zelda character. EVERY ONE. That means... no OCs, but still an incredible amount of originality, since their backgrounds are completely different to correspond with the setting. It's amazing, and I love seeing how my favorite characters act in different scenarios. It's also interesting how this doesn't only focus on Link, Zelda, or Ganondorf, but there are also several fascinating subplots going on at the same time. The biggest draw, though, is how all of the history of The Legend of Zelda series fits perfectly into a HIGH SCHOOL, of all things! I really can't get over how well the Triforce was implemented, how clever their references to the goddesses worked, how they managed to make a tribute to EVERY SINGLE ZELDA GAME by including at least one character from every one. Even if you hate high school fics or modern day fics, give this a chance. And make sure you read past the first few chapters!

Hero and Moving On by Karama9 - I talked about Hero for weeks at one point. Just constantly talking about how good it was and how much I loved it and how great the plot is and blah blah blah... And there's a reason for that! This actually is a good story. Moving On is Hero's sequel, but it's not very far in development at this point and it's on hiatus -- but fortunately its predecessor is enough enjoyment for me at the time. This story isn't very popular, and I don't see it show up very often. Honestly, I have no clue how I found it, but I'm immensely glad I did. This story is SO unique, in its portrayals of Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf, in its setting, its plot... everything. Ganondorf has taken over, and Link is afraid of absolutely everything, which is actually quite adorable even though it's probably not supposed to be, hahaha. It's a really great character choice, because it makes him far more relatable and less like the hero of legend that he's supposed to be. Oh -- and, also, it's rated M due to violent content, although it was actually rated T when I read it. There is some intense violence, to warn you. But I like it because Link and Zelda are so cute, which contrasts so well with their environment: they're put into a dismal plot, where Ganon is killing people constantly and they witness terrible horrors and monsters that are from their nightmares, but they're still bickering with one another childishly and becoming excited whenever they make progress, which leaves a sense of innocence in a foreboding world. It makes me overwhelmingly happy whenever they accomplish anything -- it's quite an impressive feat! And I really can't fathom why this doesn't have more reviews; it's baffling to me.

Shadow Lord's Bane, Rebel Assassin, The Wondrous Adventures of the Righteous Maximus, and pretty much everything else by Split Infinitive - Assuming Split Infinitive is a guy... I love this guy. I LOVE THIS AUTHOR. His writing style is so unique and entertaining, his plots original and fun, his style dark, descriptive, and amusing at the same time. Honestly, there's very little that I could say against him. He's so good at what he does -- it's phenomenal. I've loved every one of his stories, except Storm Star and Legend Redux -- which aren't bad, but... well, I never actually finished Legend Redux (I don't really remember why -- I guess I just got bored or forgot about it or something?), and Storm Star... when I first started writing this list, I hadn't actually finished it: I'd stopped about, eh, chapter ten or so, for a very good reason that would spoil too much if I told you. Thinking of this list (because YOU, dear reader, are awesome), I FINALLY decided to return to it and finish it. And it was probably one of the STRANGEST stories I'd read. Not bad, but... so, so, so weird, and kind of depressing for a while, and then it gets better and stranger and... yeah.

Anyway...

The three I listed above are my favorites (along with War of the Fairies which I didn't include up the due to the fact that it's a sequel). The thing is -- his stories are all different! The Apprentice is pretty much your basic in-universe Ocarina of Time fic, with a Gerudo OC that the plot centers around (which is why I don't like this more). It's one of those good, basic, tried-and-true fics that doesn't do much to set itself apart, but it still enjoyable nevertheless. Rebel Assassin is darker, with a more mature storyline and interesting themes of overcoming the evil within. Shadow Lord's Bane is probably my number one favorite, because it's absolutely HILARIOUS -- I laughed SO much at this story. It's a fascinating combination of a serious, adventure-style plot with flat out ridiculous, almost absurdist humor, and it includes parody of many different aspects of literature or various clichés. Actually, the whole story is pretty much a parody of the darkfic genre, with Link supposedly being evil, when in reality everything is lighthearted and ridiculous. And its sequel is War of the Fairies, which is just as humorous and lighthearted with a serious plot as a flawless backdrop. The Wondrous Adventures of the Righteous Maximus is actually a sort of sci-fi Zelda fic -- a rarity to be sure. It's very interesting. The best part about these stories is that they're all very faintly linked together. Now that I've read almost all of his tales, as I'm rereading them I'm catching vague references to his other works in them. It's hard to explain unless you look it up for yourself. He's on my favorites authors list, which consists of six people (most of the rest of which I don't even read anymore) so he's worth a read.

Free As the Wind by S.R.H Fade - I'm finding it hard to say much about this one. It used to be one of my favorites, but as time passes with no updates to refresh my memory of the tale, I'm kind of forgetting it. But it's still really good. Like I said before (it was at number two in my 2011 list), it's about TP Link and OoT Link ending up in TWW Link's world. The plot's fabulous, and the personalities of the Links fit them SO WELL! And I've always loved irony above all else -- you'll see that featured prominently in both the stories I read and write -- and this is FILLED with it. WW Link talks about the Hero of Time, and the Hero of Time is standing right in front of him. That kind of thing. And it's funny, too. There's plenty of entertainment in the relationship TP Link and OoT Link have; they absolutely hate each other, so there's opportunity for both humor and serious characterization. I really hope they update soon.

Beloved Monsters, Masked Dreams, and other stories by Spiritual Stone - Soooo... maybe it's cheating a bit, putting these two together. Masked Dreams and Beloved Monsters are linked in absolutely no way except they're written by the same person. But... eh... I love them both a lot, and I don't really want to make this post any longer than it's already going to be, sooo... we'll leave it here.

Beloved Monsters is my favorite for sure. It's her newest story, but I enjoyed it the most. It's an alternate version of Ocarina of Time, where Link works for Ganondorf and travels with Sheik undercover. And Sheik is separate from Zelda. Sheik is ALWAYS separate from Zelda in her stories. XD In Masked Dreams, Sheik is female, and it's a romance between her and Link, where they... travel around Termina, I guess? I dunno how to really explain it. Just read it and find out for yourself. It's excellent. And there's Fierce Deity! :D

Her plots are always really original and creative, and that's what I love. And her characterization of Link is just AWESOME. Interestingly, I rarely ever like Sheik as his/her own separate character, but I've actually really liked it in Spiritual Stone's stories. I've also read Once Upon a Fairytale and Blue Pearls from her, and they're also excellent. However, she said she probably wouldn't even finish Blue Pearls, which is still ongoing, so yeah. Once Upon a Fairytale was great, placed in an AU (alternate world) fairytale setting and based heavily on Twilight Princess. I reread it just the other day, partially for the sake of this list and partially because I wanted to remember why I favorited it, haha. And it's certainly worthy of my favorites list!

Legend of Zelda: WolfBane AU by Slade1987 - Not to be confused with Wolfsbane by Twilight Stallion, another story that I read that I think was also pretty good, but I don't remember the plot so I couldn't have liked it THAT much... XD Anyway, this is the only rated M story you'll find on this list. Oh, except for Hero. But that was rated T when I read it, so it doesn't count! -.- This used to be on my favorites, but I removed it because there is... er... minor "adult content" in it (so, uh, warning for that) but now I'm rereading it and I love the rest of it so much that I kind of want to add it again, but THEN I'd let the author know I removed it in the first place so I don't know what to do...! XD

But, yeah. WolfBane.

The plot centers around Link being a Wolfos, which, rather than being an enemy like in the games, is a race of shapeshifters that can turn from wolves to Hylians/humans. Link, Zelda, Malon, and Sheik go on an adventure to save Hyrule from Ganondorf, pretty much. The basic story is simple, but there's actually a surprising amount of depth to it. And then there's this god named Ordon that gets involved...  and I looove him. ^^ He tries to manipulate Link. It goes a lot into how different the races are from one another, and it's very interesting. Maybe a bit violent, but, eh. I can't sing praises about characterization for this one like I have for the last few, and in all honesty, the grammar and just writing in general are quite... lacking. Comma splices are extremely common here. But the plot is enjoyable and I really, really like Link's portrayal, which can really make or break a story for me. So I had to mention it anyway. It's worth a shot if you like those wolf-personality dominance stories... like Hero of Wolves, I guess, haha.

Regrets by Yucca - This, like Hero and Moving On, is an undiscovered gem. Again, it's kind of a darkfic. But these are the kinds of stories I like, hahaha. The plot is interesting. There are issues with it, though. MANY issues. It's short. It ends very abruptly, and some ends seem to kind of be left hanging without explanation -- I get the feeling that the author wanted to make it longer but didn't care enough to exert the extra effort. It's a MAJOR shame -- what is there is so amazing, and I've reread it many times. Additionally, I don't like its OCs. I really don't. They're boring and they don't get enough characterization time. And the first chapter is just ridiculous with the amount of detail it gives to things that are never important again. Like I said, it seems like a lot was planned for this, but nothing ever became of it. The whole story seemed kind of... haphazard.

But... I'm making it sound bad. Even with its flaws, it's still on my list, and I love it to death. I like it for its darkness. You'll see what I mean if you read it, haha. If you don't like the idea of Link being a semi-bad guy sort-of-but-not-really... then this might not be for you. (Which is exactly what I should say for Forgotten Demons above, to a FAR greater degree there... but whatever.)

Why You Should Never Travel with Foreigners by LittleBlueNayru - Just... yeah. Read it. All you need to know is it's Twilight Princess, it's based on Midna's nonsense language that she speaks, and it is the funniest thing I have ever read in my life. And I'm actually quite serious about that. I just die with laughter every time I read this. In fact, this could probably be higher as far as personal enjoyment goes, but I decided to put the plot stories first. This is more of something that will make you laugh so hard that people will think you're insane if you read it in public. So yeah.

The Hero of Wolves and Shadow Kingdom by The Wolfess - Considering how high I rated these before, you might be wondering why on earth I didn't mention them right away. To be honest, I've completely lost interest with this series. They're masterfully written, but... I don't like the plot, really. I love the wolf-like mannerisms of Link -- that's what drew me to the story in the first place. But I don't like Dark Link, and he's featured later in these stories (was that a spoiler?). Annnnnd... ugh. The plot of the second story is just killing me, and not in a good way. I don't like it. I can't say why without revealing everything, but... WOLVES ARE SPEAKING GERUDO LANGUAGE. HOW CAN WOLVES SPEAK GERUDO? HOW CAN THEY SPEAK ANY HUMAN LANGUAGE? IT DOESN'T WORK!

And I still hate Dark Link. This story just isn't a good match for me.

However, that doesn't mean I shouldn't mention it. Even if I'm not fond of the sequel, Hero of Wolves is still a great read. And plenty of people love it. The plot is extremely creative, even if it's not my cup of tea. I still suggest that you look into it -- maybe you'll like it more than me.

Ascension by Damien - I'm not sure what to say about this. It's marvelously well-written and very unique, and it takes place after Majora's Mask. It's updated SO slowly though. Fortunately, the chapters are long. It's... different, to say the least. There are a LOT of OCs -- I didn't really hate them, but I can't say they were wonderful, either. But it's interesting in the sense that you can't really tell who the good guys are. The author changed and added a lot of lore that I find interesting, and that I'd suggest anyone to check out.

The Golden Power by DBAinsw - This is a pretty good story about the nature of the Triforce. It's a post-TP tale that follows Link's adventures in two original countries that apparently border Hyrule. It's certainly not a short story, but the OCs are likable and the new countries very believable, so I enjoyed it. It's also one of those stories that make Link and Zelda all-powerful due to their Triforces, and I've always really been drawn to the idea. I like the thought that having the power of the gods in a mortal body can make really interesting conflicts, so it was enjoyable to read.

Also, this person pretty much predicted Fi before Skyward Sword was even announced with their OC Arrika, which I thought was pretty funny at the time...

Fate Favors the Fearless by Freyjadour - Fate Favors the Fearless is a TP-inspired AU ZeLink fic. They changed Ordon to be a warrior village, pretty much, and a separate race on its own, kind of like WolfBane did with the Wolfos. I... think I mentioned this before? Maybe? A lot of the story, at least at this point, is centered around a tournament that Link enters. He faces a lot of racism from the Hylians, though. I really liked it. I've reread it, at least. ('Course, I think I've reread EVERYTHING on this list. XD)

Seven Swords Saga, its sequel, its triquel (or whatever you call it), and various oneshots by Royazali - DID YOU SEE THIS COMING? I mentioned it last time. I also mentioned that this author was nice and helped me beat The Legend of Zelda when I was working on it, so I kind of HAD to mention them out of respect. ...But, of course, I would have mentioned them even without that, because I love these stories so much. XD

Just think of this: every Link ever from every Zelda game ever (except the CD-i because they suck) ends up somehow in the same universe as each other. Except there's one Zelda. And every villain ever ends up kidnapping her all the time. Absolute hilarity.

The humor in this is akin to Why You Should Never Travel with Foreigners -- sarcastic, witty, hilarious, and... awesome. Personally, Seven Swords Summer Vacation is my favorite oneshot -- at the end they all see Skyward Sword unveiled and it's just great. And they play each others' games. And then Seven Swords Saga: CHI, which is a collection of BRILLIANT oneshots, each and every one of which are SO funny. (My favorite is the St. Patrick's Day one!) If you're a real Zelda fan, you'll appreciate the references and jokes that, really, only a Zelda fan would understand. When I first read it, I didn't get everything, because I hadn't played all the games. Now rereading it is that much better because I'm catching so much more than I did before, especially where LoZ/AoL Link is concerned. Of course, to understand most of the oneshots, you actually have to read Seven Swords Saga first, so... go for it! The grammar's not perfect BUT IT'S FUNNY, DANGIT! And the plots actually aren't terrible. The first one's simple, but the sequel and so far the unfinished triquel (or whatever) were decently interesting.

AND OH MY GOSH CAN THIS PERSON SERIOUSLY WRITE A ONESHOT IN WHICH SEASONS AND KNIGHT REALIZE THEY'RE THE SAME PERSON. THAT WOULD MAKE MY DAY.

A Wolf in Goat's Clothing by Elphaba-Rose - Now, I'm hesitant to put this on my list, for the same reason I'm hesitant to favorite it: this story is at only six chapters. My new general rule is to not favorite anything under ten chapters, aside from obvious exceptions for intentionally short stories. After all, last recommendation list, I absolutely loved Bright as Night when it was still early in development, yet I ended up losing interest halfway through that one. However... I had to mention this. HAD to. The length is really the ONLY thing keeping me from favoriting it.

It's a Twilight Princess story. Link goes to join the army, but he's suffering from the loss of Midna and the presence of the wolf within him. You know. Typical Twilight Princess stuff. But it's still good! Lots of OCs, though. I should probably hate it more. But I don't. It's a wolf-dominance fic... and people underestimate Link, which is another one of my favorite clichés... so yeah! When I reviewed in November 2012, they said that they'd update in a few weeks, if all went well... and clearly all did NOT go well, since it has not been updated since February of 2012, which is disappointing... but, even so, if you need a quick little beginning story, try this!

Into the Woods by Lyxie - I think the only reason this is low on the list is because I don't really remember it. But I know I liked it. I KNOW I did. There's supposed to be a sequel coming at some point, too, and I'm looking forward to that. This person goes a lot into magic -- Zelda is a sorceress, so they have a really detailed magic system for their world. Link himself is a really awesome character, too. I can't reveal too much, but this is a really good fantasy "fairytale"-type story if you're interested in that.

My Ghost Shouldn't Cry by Spirit the Fire Dragon - Am I putting this on my list? Really? I have mixed feelings about this one, but... okay!

Alternate ending to Skyward Sword. Link dies. Ghirahim is haunted by Link's ghost. That's the basic plot. But, wow, the emotion in this is fantastic. I can admit to crying more than once. I hate the whole "Link dies" plot, usually, but this one, somehow, really entertained me. It's all from Ghirahim's point of view.

Zelda: A Fairytale and The Mystical Ocarina by Sakurelle - I'm almost unsure if I actually do want this on my list here -- at least in the main section and not under "honorable mentions". But I guess I will, heheh.

Both stories are original AU fics based on classic fairytales. The Mystical Ocarina is a parody of Aladdin, whereas Zelda: A Fairytale combines a lot of different tales. They're very cute and keep of the spirit of the genre they're imitating quite well. Zelda: A Fairytale, at least, is extremely entertaining. It was one of the first stories I read, if I recall correctly. Man, I can still remember describing it to my friends back when fanfiction was new to all of us... now we all have accounts and various fandoms we go to...

But, uh, yeah! It's like a fairytale! So... read it if you want! XD

HONORABLE MENTIONS (Mostly stories I've forgotten the plots of and don't know if they're actually any good anymore.)

------

I think... that's it for now! If I discover any other marvelous Zelda fics, I believe I will edit this and add them here. Perhaps in another year if there are a LOT of changes, I'll make a new post. We'll see how it goes.

Thanks for reading! I apologize to the terribly off-topic post for my regular readers (if there are any) -- I really didn't quite know what to write today as my monthly post, and I'd been working on this list for a while, soo... here you go! This SHOULD be about ALBW and WWHD, but... eh. I'm not inspired to write about them, for some reason. *shrug*

Enjoy your Labor Day weekend, everyone!

Duty before Love (Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker Medli x Link fan fiction)

*gasps*

That's right... a post on Medli's Messages... that's ACTUALLY ABOUT MEDLI!

The title explains most of it, but I'll go into detail. This is a story I've been writing for while for fanfiction.net. There's this program that Insane, certifiably is hosting called Across the Fandom. She is trying to get oneshots for every pairing existing in the Zelda-verse from a variety of different authors. You were able to sign up on this one thread (I'll try to find a link later) and claim a pairing, and then they'd give you another one at random. For no reason whatsoever, I decided to sign up for Medli x Link, and then they gave me the random pairing Din x Link. I have no idea what I'll do for Din and Link, but for now, I've finished the Medli one. Yaaay!

I... don't really know what inspired this. I just started writing about Medli, lol. But you, dear readers, please tell me what you think - I rarely ask for comments here on Medli' Messages (at least, RECENTLY I haven't asked for comments) but I'm doing so now. I love feedback on my writing. You can tell me what I'm doing wrong, what you like, what you don't like - in fact, you can even tell me you HATE the thing and I'll be so happy that you left your thoughts. It doesn't matter.

My main worries about this story: Is it romantic enough? Too romantic? Was it too dramatic, or just right? Was it sad, or so stupid it made you laugh? Are Medli's and Link's personalities right, or did I totally screw up (main concerned about Link in this area)? Those are the kind of questions I'd like you to answer, if nothing else. ;)

If you steal this, I will hunt you down and... um... destroy you! Or something. Seriously, don't steal.

Please enjoy! (Though I REALLY hate the beginning. Those are always the worst.)

Duty before Love by TwilightWakerofTime (A.K.A. Sierra WinterBreeze, A.K.A. Windlilly)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

How had it come to this?

Her heart pounding, she leaned against the door, wincing as she heard another crash. Oh, great Spirits of Water and Sky… please let him be all right…

Sighing, Medli turned around again, slumping against the cold, locked door of the Earth Temple. Of her temple. Even if she lacked their memories, ever since Laruto awakened her she could sense the presence of her ancestors, the deceased Sages that once empowered the Master Sword. She was left to take their place, to guard the temple and aid the Hero.

It wasn’t the aiding the Hero part that she found hard – she’d just gone through an entire temple with him, flying to places too high to reach and breaking barriers with her harp’s song when necessary. No, it was the guarding part that worried her.

Would she be… stuck here?

Would she not be allowed to go with him? With Link?

The ground shook again as something heavy hit the wall hard. She took in a sharp breath, then exhaled slowly, silently chiding herself for being so jumpy. He’ll be fine. He’s the Chosen Hero. He’ll be fine.

Another thud. He doesn’t sound fine…

Stop it! She shook her head. This was crazy! She was sitting here, moping and fretting while Link risked his life. It was unfair. Why couldn’t she have gone instead? At the least he could have let her in the room with him! But, no; apparently as the Sage of Earth, she was too precious to risk getting harmed. And… with the pleading look he gave her when he asked Medli to stay behind… she just couldn’t say no. But surely there had to be some way she could have helped. Didn’t she possess some kind of special powers as a Sage? Something… anything could have helped him…

Desperate to distract herself, Medli thought about Dragon Roost Island. Unfortunately, it only brought up painful memories. She still didn’t know if she’d be able to go back there. She might never see Quill or Komali again.

For some reason, she began to think of the first time she met Link. He was the youngest human she’d ever met. Everyone else that came to Dragon Roost from the outside were sailors, older men usually from Windfall, and she wasn’t old enough to leave the island on her own yet (which reminded her - she'd be in so much trouble when she got home). So she’d never seen a boy his age out alone on the sea. Hoping for some kind of assistance from this boy, she asked for his help to get into Dragon Roost Cavern. Then she’d been captured. She’d really thought that was the end… but then he’d saved her!

And now he was fighting for the Great Sea – for her life and everyone else’s. And she was stuck out here.

She closed her eyes. She had to stop being so negative.

But something felt… different…

Her eyes shot opened as she realized what it was. The sounds of battle from inside the boss room – they’d stopped!

She pressed her hands against the door, pushing with all her might, hoping it would open. But it was no use. The door was securely locked. She held her breath. No! That couldn’t mean… Link hadn’t failed… had he?

And suddenly, the door slid open.

With a small cry of surprise at the unexpected lack of support, she stumbled forward –

– right into the arms of someone standing there.

Link blinked down in surprise at the Rito girl. He opened his mouth to say something, but Medli seized him in a tight hug and released a soft sob.

“Oh, gods! You’re here… okay… and you… I was… I couldn’t… you weren’t… you left me here!”

He let out a sound between a sigh of relief and a groan. “Medli… it’s great to see you, but you’re hurting me.”

“Oh!” She quickly pulled away, for the first time noticing the state he was in. There were multiple scratches on his arms and strange blackened marks on his green tunic – singe marks? Were those from fire? Great Valoo, what had happened during that battle? “I’m so sorry. I wasn’t… I didn’t… I’m just glad that you… you’re… I… and I…”

“Medli,” he said gently. “You’re stammering.”

She brought a hand up to cover her mouth, which had made an ‘o’ of shock. “You’re right! I’m sorry! I don’t mean to. I only–”

Link grinned at her. “It’s okay. But we need to restore the power to repel evil to the Master Sword now. We’ll have to play that song one more time.”

She closed her eyes and nodded. “Of course.” Her duty as a Sage needed to come before her feelings for Link. She couldn’t let herself be distracted at such an important moment. Even one mistake in the song could… She paused. Well, she didn’t really know what would happen if she made a mistake while playing it. Hmm. Hopefully she wouldn’t have to find out.

The pair walked into the center of the room, where the Triforce emblem was displayed on the stone floor. Medli gazed around herself with mild fascination – the whole place, surrounded by spikes and thorny towers, seemed familiar, but she couldn’t quite place where she’d seen it before. Of course, throughout their expedition in this temple she’d had thoughts like this; this wasn’t the first time she’d felt like she’d been somewhere in memory that she’d never visited physically.

Link raised the Wind Waker and looked at her expectantly. “Ready?”

Snapped out of her thoughts, she swiftly swung the harp over her head and cradled it in her arms, her calloused fingers poised to play. She checked to make sure it was tuned into the right key before nodding. “Ready.”

Link began to move the conductor’s baton, and Medli played the Earth God’s Lyric with practiced ease, her fingers gliding across the harp strings. Immediately she realized she didn’t need to worry about messing up the song – backed up by the spirits of her ancestors, she felt like she’d played this a million times… like this song was a part of her. She barely noticed the Master Sword beginning to glow from where Link had placed it in the center of the Triforce as she lost herself in the music.

She didn’t notice Laruto until the music stopped. She gazed at the fallen Sage of Earth, who was supposedly was her ancestor. When Medli first saw her, she’d been shocked by her fish-like and wingless appearance, but she was prepared this time. Now she heard the Sage’s voice echoing in her head. “Your half of the power to repel evil has returned to the Master Sword.” Medli sighed with relief. “However,” the Sage continued, making her stiffen, “your task is not complete. You must remain here and play the Earth God’s Lyric to ensure the Master Sword does not fail again. This is your duty to Hyrule and the Goddesses.

Her eyes widened and her heart shattered almost instantly at the sound of these words. No! This was exactly what she’d been afraid of hearing! She couldn’t stay here forever, protecting the power of an ancient relic, no matter how important it was! How could she sacrifice herself like that – how could the gods be so impassive, so apathetic, so cruel? This wasn’t fair… she wanted to travel… she wanted to–

“Medli?”

She looked up, noticing Link regarding her with concern, the half-empowered Master Sword in his hands. She glanced to the side, realizing that Laruto had already disappeared. Her hands balled into fists at a sudden rise of anger. Even her ancestors didn’t care about her!

“Is something wrong?”

She turned back to Link, and tried to calm herself, pasting a completely fake smile on her face. “What? Oh, no. Nothing is wrong.”

She struggled to hold back tears and sustain the smile as he tilted his head to the side curiously. “Are you sure?”

“Yes.”

His frown clearly showed that he didn’t believe her, but she couldn’t stand to say anything more. “Okay. Then we should go now.”

Just keep smiling.

You should. But I can’t come.”

“What?”

She bit her lip to prevent it from trembling – the smile had fallen from her face by now, but she didn’t have the strength to restore it. “I can’t come. I… I need to stay here and fulfill my duty as a Sage. I have to keep playing so that the power to repel evil doesn’t wear out.”

“You… That’s silly,” Link said, laughing nervously, a confused expression on his face. “The gods can’t expect you to do that. You’ve done enough.”

“It’s my duty,” she quoted Laruto quietly. “To Hyrule and the Goddesses.”

For a moment, Link just stood there, frozen in utter shock. Finally, he growled, “That’s not your duty. All you needed to do was restore the power to the Master Sword – and you’ve done that!” He held up the ancient weapon as proof. “Now all it needs is the Wind Sage’s power, and it will be the Blade of Evil’s Bane again. You’re done!”

“Laruto told me,” she whispered, a few tears trickling down her cheek. “Laruto said that I had to stay here. Otherwise, its power will fade over time.”

“No!” Link shouted, grabbing her hand. “I won’t let you do that to yourself. What about the Rito? Doesn’t Valoo need an attendant?”

“I can be replaced,” she argued halfheartedly. In all honesty, these were the things running through her mind, too. Since Komali’s grandmother had died, no one had been left to teach her, so she’d needed to struggle through reading ancient texts in the old language and further her training on her own. It was difficult, and she only managed to get through it because she held some previous knowledge – for someone new, learning how to be Valoo’s attendant would be next to impossible.

“This isn’t fair! You’re throwing your life away just for this stupid quest!”

“Link…”

“You can’t do this. There must be some other way.”

“Link?”

“We can just leave, right now,” he continued, turning around to pace, deep in thought. “Maybe there’s somewhere we can hide, where you won’t have to–”

“Link!”

He looked up at her, startled out of his rant by Medli’s uncharacteristic yell. He was shocked to find tears flowing freely down her cheeks. She couldn’t hold them in any longer.

“Please, just stop,” she sobbed, her voice echoing off the walls of the Earth Temple. “You’re making it worse.”

Letting out a big breath of air, Link visibly deflated, his gaze softening. “I’m sorry. I just–”

“I have no choice,” she sighed, sounding hollow. “It’s not just me, or you, or the lives of the Rito at stake. It’s everyone. Every person in the Great Sea.” Her voice dropped so low that Link could barely hear it. “Duty must come before love…”

For the first time during his quest, the Chosen Hero had no idea what to say or do.

“You should go now,” Medli mumbled, gesturing toward the glowing portal that had appeared.

After holding her gaze in silence for a long while, Link nodded mutely. But instead of moving towards the portal, he approached Medli one last time.

“I’ll come back,” he promised, staring into her eyes firmly.

Medli allowed herself a sad smile. “I know.”

“Besides, the gods can’t keep you here after Ganon is dead, can they?” Link said, a kind of desperate hope in his eyes.

“I hope not.” Could the gods be cruel enough to keep her here forever? At this point, she wouldn’t be surprised…

He stepped back, away from Medli and into the glow of the enchanted wind that would take him outside the temple. She watched, helpless, as the wind began to envelope Link.

Then he was gone.

She dropped her gaze to the floor and sighed, trying to release the despair she felt welling up inside of her. Reaching over her shoulder, she grabbed the harp. To push back the tears forming again, she played a sad, dissonant chord on the string, and then started the Earth God’s Lyric.

She had a feeling she’d been doing this a lot from now on.

...I don't like it. *sigh* But I never like anything I write, so... I'll just wait for your opinions.

Why do all the females in my Zelda stories sound so dang helpless?

Legend of Zelda Fan Fiction Recommendations

(UPDATE 9/30/13: This post is very old. I wasn't as experienced in fanfiction back then, and my tastes have changed. If you want a far larger and better list of recommendations, please check out the new and improved one here!)

Hey, look! Another fan fiction post from me. However, this time, I'm going to post some links to the stories. I will no longer include the Sacred Realm ones, however - to look at my previous recommendations, click here. Otherwise, read on. The orders have changed for a lot of those anyway. Some aren't even included anymore.

First off, before I start praising other authors... let's look at myself. My username (or penname, as I believe they call it) is TwilightWakerofTime. By clicking that link, you can go to my profile. And - oh, lookie! "Author has written 1 story for Legend of Zelda."

Yep. That's true. And I forgot to post about it on here when I did it. Silly me!

So instead of copying and pasting the whole thing from my word document, I'm going to let you read it on the site. It's called Musings. I wouldn't actually suggest it, though, if it wasn't my own story, lol. It's a Zelink fic that's... pretty stupid, honestly... it has no plot, as I do not hesitate to explain in my author's notes at the beginning there... Oh, well. You can go ahead and read it anyway. The only thing I ask for is that you review. Even if you hate it.

Now! For the recommendations...

1. The Legend of Zelda: The Return and Reconciliation by Rose Zemlya. I suggested these last time, right? Right? I think they were my second pick. Well, now they're first, no doubt about it. I've recently reread them - actually, I'm in the process of rereading Reconciliation - and they just never cease to amaze me. They make me laugh, and yet the plot is just... incredible. So if you're looking for a good read, check out these two stories. Reconciliation is a sequel to The Return, though, so it makes more sense to read that one first. I can honestly say that they're my favorite fan fictions, if not my favorite pieces of literature ever.

2. A VERY hard choice... but... Free as the Wind by S.R.H. Fade. It combines Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess, and Wind Waker into one amazing adventure with very unique personalities for each Link. In other words... OoT Link and TP Link get transported to TWW Link's world and try to help him along on his quest. I read it longer ago than The Return and Reconciliation, but I still know I enjoyed it. They gave OoT and TP Link nicknames - Reoh and Emit. I understood where Emit came from, considering it's Ocarina of TIME Link (spell it backwards if you don't get it) but Reoh took me a while... until I read TP Link's reaction to it. ...It's Hero, if you don't get it... XD Anyway, they made TP Link the reluctant Hero and OoT the serious, dutiful one. It's very entertaining. :P And it has a great plot, too.

3. Hit List by zestycrouton, I guess. It's one of those weird high school fics where they put every character into a... high school... XD I usually don't like these - at least now I don't... but back then I was still pretty new to the site and I just decided to try it out. And OMG I WAS AMAZED. It starts off a bit slow, but it picks up quickly. It only gets better when legends and the Triforce becomes involved in a modern Hyrule. Just... wow. And it doesn't only focus on Link and Zelda and Ganondorf, either - there's all sorts of characters, from all sorts of different Zelda games in there. Every single character in the story is based off of a Legend of Zelda character. That's just another part of what makes it so awesome.

4. Why You Should Never Travel With Foreigners by LittleBlueNayru. THIS. STORY. IS. SO. FUNNY! ...Sadly, I think it's discontinued. Oh, and there's a lot of swearing, just to warn you, but it's so hilarious, I can ignore it... Basically, it plays on the idea of Midna's crazy voiceovers and how nonsensical they are. Yep.

5. Hero of Wolves and Shadow Kingdom by The Wolfess. I mentioned this one last time, too. It was the first story I read on that site and was totally, completely, utterly stunned by. And I still love it. Now Hero of Wolves has its sequel: Shadow Kingdom.

6. Rend and Avilux Ignis and other stories by fleets. Fleets is epic. :D I don't know him/her very well... look, I didn't even know if they're a he or a she! But they're still epic. Because they write epic stories. XD Their story Rend is the second story I ever left a review on (if I'm remembering correctly) and their stories are still the only ones I actually bothering reviewing constantly. Most of the time, I'll just leave a long paragraph review and say "YOU'RE SOOOO COOL I LOVE YOU" and then just keep reading silently, but no. This story... I keep clicking that review button at the bottom. Even when I'm using a stupid, impossible-to-type-on DSi. They really like Vaati - all their stories have him as a main character. All his/her stories are amazing, so go ahead and read them. The only one you shouldn't read is... Recollections. SERIOUSLY! DON'T READ IT! IT'S SO FREAKING SAD!!!! Unless you WANT to cry... don't read it...

7. Bright as Night by Allendra. It's only got five chapters at the moment and already it's on my top ten list. That's GOT to mean something...

8. Zelda: A Fairytale and The Mystical Ocarina by Sakurelle. I mentioned Zelda: A Fairytale last time - it was my number one then. Not anymore. But it was still pretty good. I still love fairytales. :) This time I'm going to add The Mystical Ocarina to the list. It's based on Aladdin and it was really good, too.

9. Sacred Reliquary by Sharper Than the Sword. Similar to Hit List, every character in this story is from a Zelda game, though their personalities are VERY different. No, really. Just look at Zelda in this story. She's... insane... at best. :P

10. Seven Swords Saga, its sequel, and other various oneshots by Royazali. These stories are so funny! Royazali is the awesome person who helped me find the eighth dungeon on Legend of Zelda when I reviewed. You have to know a LOT about the Zelda series to understand some of the jokes. I wish it had more reviews. The only problem with it (thus putting it at the bottom of this list) is that it had quite a few grammar mistakes. He/She (still not sure which) tends to not put apostrophes in his/her contractions! *gasp*

And... that's my top ten list! There's plenty of other epic fan fictions out there - you can view some other great stories on my favorites list. But for now, that's all I'll put.

...I really need some adjectives besides "epic", "amazing", and "awesome"...

Some important stuffs

First:
New buddy blog! In other words... The Goron Times, owned by Umbreon on Wizard101 Central, will now be collaborating with Medli's Messages. I have an affiliate! Hehehe... my blog must be getting at least SOMEWHAT popular if I can use epic words like "affiliate". XD
Also:
Thanks to Umbreon (yet again), I now know the release date for Ocarina of Time 3DS. June 17th!
...And Kid Icarus: Uprising comes out May 6. Just saying.
But... yep! I don't have a 3DS yet, but I now have a lot of friends with it - three I can think of. One of them let me try it. It was... fun. :D I got to play Phantom Hourglass on it (although it sadly wasn't in 3D, because old DS games don't work with it). But... there's these card things you can put on the table and... it pops up on the screen and... yeah. It's epic.
I probably won't get OoT 3DS the day it's released, however. Unless I randomly come up with $150 more for the system. Plus, I need most of my money for Skyward Sword still. There's NOTHING that will keep me away from getting THAT the first day it comes out! (Unless GameStop doesn't get it in in time. Ugh. ST flashback...)
Speaking of which: OoT was rated E. OoT 3DS is rated E 10+. Why? Fantasy violence, animated blood (there's a lot of that... try throwing a bomb at a ReDead!)... and... suggestive themes.
I lol'd at that.
My first thought? Thanks, Ruto.
And the LAST thing:
Should I post a Zelda fan fiction here? I still need a title for it. Unlike The Blade of Evil's Bane, my previous epic fail attempt at creating a Zelda fic, this story will be an adventure-comedy. I'll TRY to be funny... it probably won't be, but at least it will be lighthearted. I think I might post it here for an idea on a title. So? Would anyone read it?
Btw - I'm STILL stuck on dungeon eight!

*sigh*

...I'm sad. I have a D in Language Arts now. And I just found an incredibly epic fanfic! I can't read the fanfic until I do homework - I've self-banned myself from ff.net until I complete at least ONE of those vocab thingies. ...Make that two, since Vocab 12 is almost done... but then there's still 11... and paragraphs...

-.-

At least I got a new cell phone yesterday. It has Wi-Fi too, and it can see italics! My DSi can't, so sometimes the fanfics can end up extremely confusing. Like, the author puts in a random flashback in italics in the middle of a paragraph, but I can't see the italics so it looks like... um... well, just random.

Why did I just put that on a Zelda blog? No, wait... why did I post ANY of this on a Zelda blog? It has NOTHING to do with Legend of Zelda! Aside from the fan fiction part... but that's not the point!

I'm so weird. So I guess this post is just to let you know I'm alive?

Yep...

(Speaking of which - I just remembered I promised a fanfic post a while ago? Umm... I won't be able to tell you which fanfics I like bestest, but at least you can view my favorites if you go to my ff.net profile here. At least, I'm GUESSING that's my profile... I really can't check 'cuz my computer won't let me on that site, remember?)

Authoring and Dragon Questing. Both are indirectly Zelda related.

Celestia is awesome.

Why did I just type that on my Zelda blog? Because it is. And ALSO because it's causing me to revert back to the days when I would spend hours on my computer - and NOT on my Zelda games.

I mean... I just missed playing as Sierra WinterBreeze SO much. I'm writing a fanfic about it, you know - it's difficult to write about something you haven't played in FOREVER. That's why I started writing the Zelda story, which, in case anyone cares, is actually coming along pretty well. ...Okay, it's STILL plot-less, lol, and I'm only halfway through chapter two... but guess what? I'M WRITING AN OUTLINE! Yeah, totally uncharacteristic for me! But it will help, probably - I'll know what's happening in later chapters, so I can add foreshadowing! I wish I'd had that for TToSW... I could have removed some embarassing parts that I now regret writing, because I really don't know how to explain them now (like the black fire? Yeah. Now I have to come up with a reason for it). So, the Zelda story... um... so far, it's about the Sages getting kidnapped by... somebody. Still don't know who. PLOT-LESS, remember? And the outline is only two chapters ahead, on chapter 4. And meanwhile, the seal on Ganondorf is weakening 'cuz Link was stupid and just HAD to go to Termina. Long story. Read it later. XD

...Uh... okay. I should have just made the post about that, but I already typed the title up there about my lack of updates, so I guess I should move on to that.

Let's see here... Celestia... Oh! Yeah. So, I FINALLY got to try out Celestia last night, and I had more fun than I even expected myself to. So I think instead of trying to get overdue library books from people on Minish Cap, I'll go and save an underwater world with my personal favorite heroine in ANY story I've wrote! (although very few stories that I've wrote are long enough for me to take a liking to the characters - like, there's Lunalynne... May... Allianna... Leanna... Mia... Krystal... Kithia... Kaylia... and none of their stories ever made it past chapter 5. And my chapters for other stories are pretty short - I usually attempt to make them ten pages, which honestly isn't long if you've seen the size of my notebooks. So, congrats, you now have a list of my OC female characters.)

Wow. I seem very determined to make this post about writing. Should I just change the title...?

No. No, I'm too lazy to click up there.

Okay. What have I done on Zelda games since the last post... hmm...

OOH! OOH! ...Okay, this strays from the point again, but I just remembered something I've been dying to make a post of! Dragon Quest IX!!! Look, there are few video games that I buy anymore that aren't Zelda related (because I seem to be lacking funds to buy anything else that I may not even like in the first place). However, Sydney got DQ IX a while ago, and then Tnaz bought it, and then ROWAN bought it... on my birthday, btw, which is SO unfair since she wouldn't let me play it... and so I just felt SO left out. They kept playing it at the Pokemon league, while I was sitting there dejectedly playing Minish Cap. And it prevented Sydney from helping me, too (you know she's the Minish Cap expert, right? Definitely. Besides the final boss, she went through that whole game on her own, and BEFORE me, too. I was so proud of her, since she's not really into LoZ as much as I am). Sooo... FINALLY I went ahead and bought it. I mentioned this briefly in a previous post... and I also told you what I named my character, right?

Zelda.

...What? It's a pretty name! I love names that begin with z's! Besides, she looks NOTHING like Princess Zelda. Well, I TRIED to make her look like her, but I gave up at the clothes part. My minstrel stuffs I have right now are so epic - my stats would lower sufficiently if I took them off. Oh, and guess what my warrior's name is?

...Link.

Okay, no excuse there. I really was trying to make a Link. XD But it didn't work out AT ALL - I found green clothes for him, but then his stats got bad. The first time he died I got so mad I finally changed them out to a bluish-grey armor called Bronze armor. And now I think he's wearing red. Luckily, they actually kind of work for him - it's literally called "Magic Armour" and it looks a LOT like Twilight Princess Magic Armor. So yay. ...Kind of. There's still the hat problem I had, and since he really looks NOTHING like Link without a hat (there weren't many hairstyles to choose from!), he still has the leather hat from the beginning of the game. Whatever. It works.

My other two characters are Leanna and Kaylia. If you don't recognize those names, refer back to my female OC list. ;) Leanna is a priest, and Kaylia is a martial artist. Leanna is SO useless though - she's supposed to be the healer, BUT SHE KEEPS DYING! Oh, and then I try to use Zing to bring her back to life - but since it sometimes fails, it just keeps saying, "Leanna remains lifeless. Leanna remains lifeless. Leanna remains lifeless."

By that point, I wanted to bring her back to life again just so I could kill her.

So I, as Zelda, am a level 31 minstrel. As soon as I unlock Sage class, I'm SO switching to that. Zelda fans should know why. As well as Dragon Quest fans, since Sage is an epic vocation. Then there's Link, my awesome warrior, level 19 - big difference between me and him, I know. It's 'cuz my sis helped me level up, and she's OVER 99 in ranger. And I couldn't take buddies with me, 'cuz apparently Link's not Celestrian (and it's one super duper hilarious coincidence that the game has Celestria in it - just one letter away from the new W101 world). Lol, speaking of which, I worked to unlock the Gladiator class, and it was so fun doing that. I just took Link with me, and had him use Whipping Boy to protect me - that's what the quest says to do. So it just kept saying, "Link is protecting Zelda!" That made me laugh. XD Oh, and I'm almost considering changing Link's vocation to gladiator... but that doesn't sound like him. Rowan insists that they're incredible and more powerful than warriors... but the warrior-specific skill classification is Courage! THAT'S SO LINK! O_o Okay, back to my party of characters... After Link is Kaylia, the martial artist at level 18, and then Leanna level 17 priest. And a USELESS level 17 priest, too.

OMG. This post is too long. Why am I writing such long posts now? No one reads them anyway! >.< I think this is just sort of the place I can rant about video games and describe my experiences. It's an author thing, I'm guessing. ;)

So... *sigh* I never did talk about REAL Zelda games. Man. ...Okay, I'm changing the post title now. Like I mentioned earlier, it was original something along the lines of "I DON'T HAVE ANY UPDATES" but now it's going to be... well... you can see now.

Enjoy your weekend. As for me... CELESTIA, HERE I COME!

The Blade of Evil's Bane Prologue

Wow... too much blogging tonight...

But here. I kept my promise. Here's the prologue. I'm BEGGING you to comment and tell me your honest opinion. If it is absolute, total failure... let me know. I'm not used to writing from the villain's perspective, lol, so it might be bad. I'm actually not used to writing in third person AT ALL. So... tell me what you think. If you guys like it, I might post the first chapter (that I really dislike) and you could give me some advice.

Ooh, and remember to read the two posts below! They ARE new, I promise. Just don't feel like editing...

The Blade of Evil's Bane - Prologue

Power…

That was him.

He was the King of Evil, born leader of the Gerudo, would-be conqueror of Hyrule. He had worked so long to achieve his goal, and just when it was finally within his grasp…

…He should have won. He had all the power in the world and the strength to single-handedly take over an entire kingdom. How was it that he had lost?

Those two. The other Triforce bearers. They were the reason his dream had been shattered.

But how?

They did not have power. He had Power, the absolute kind that can only be rivaled by the Goddesses themselves. How did they defeat him?

Wisdom…

That was the princess.

She looked so fragile, seemed so helpless, he never imagined she would be a problem. What he hadn’t expected was for her to use the superior knowledge and magical abilities granted to her by the Triforce to fool him.

Somehow, he believed she would just sit away in a “safe” hiding spot, away from the rest of the world. Never did he suspect the mysterious Sheikah boy of actually being a princess, even if he was the one always helping the bearer of Courage.

How had he not seen it?

Courage…

That was the Hero.

That Goddess-forsaken Hero.

He had only been a boy, an orphan raised by a race of children. Children! And still he was granted the Goddess’ favor. He was given unbelievable Courage, the ability to take on anything. The worst part was that he could no disagree that the boy had done his tasks well. He defeated every monster presented before him, no matter how formidable.

He had defeated Ganon, the very embodiment of Power…

How?

Ganondorf clenched his fists, glaring uselessly at the eternal white mist all around him. It had seemed impossible. It was impossible. That boy had still done it, despite the odds.

The boy had Courage, but not Power. How had it come to this? He had… no… Power…

The Gerudo paused as he came to a sudden realization.

He did have power.

The power to repel evil.

The Master Sword.

Ganondorf grinned maliciously, a plan forming in his head. He knew how to get his long-awaited victory. He knew how to get his revenge. He knew just how to leave Hyrule and its Hero desperate and without hope or weapons. He just had to get rid of that sword…

It would be time very soon. Ganondorf could feel the seal weakening – why or how, he did not know. But he had asked “how” enough.

It was time to find out if Courage really could amount to Power… without the Blade of Evil’s Bane.

Zelda Fan Fiction!

EVERYONE on this blog should know I write stories by now. Most of you read my other blog, Sierra's Story, anyway. And if you read that blog, HOPEFULLY you read The Tale of Sierra WinterBreeze, too. I've managed to accumlate a pretty big fanbase for that story. It's really... good encouragement for me to keep writing. ;)

Up until recently, though, I never really... classified my story. I guess, though, it's a "fanfic." Meaning a story based on a video game, book, anime, or WHATEVER written by a fan. I didn't know much about fan fiction until recently. That "recently" would be when I happened to be on Legend of Zelda.com on my DSi (yes, the same stupid one that I can't write blog posts on anymore). There was little, TINY section in the bottom left-hand corner that said, 'fan fiction.'

Hmm. Well, I used to read Wizard101 stories written by other people, although I haven't had time lately. Maybe these Zelda ones could be just as good..?

UNFORTUNALTEY, none of the stories on there are that good. Okay, actually, most of them were REALLY good. But they were SHORT! *sob* I LIKE LONG STORIES! Plus, half of them ended so abruptly! One even stopped in the middle of the sentence!

But this is what got me addicted to Zelda fan fiction. There was only one I really liked: Twilight Successors. I mean, the others were okay too, but that was the one that stood out the most. If anyone is interested in reading it... the link is here.

I ended up reading EVERY story on there. Which honestly wasn't that many...

Anyway, I was offficially fascinated by fanfics. I especially liked the ones with Link in it - I LOVE reading how they portray his personality. There were only two of those stories with Link in it, though, and one was the one that ended in the middle of the sentence. >.< So I had to go off and search for a new source of stories...

So I found the Sacred Realm!

And man, there were a LOT of good stories on there. Best of all, they were LONG. They had CHAPTERS.

...And most were unfinished.

...And I have NO hope of them being updated, since they're apparently not accepting any new submissions. -.-

*sigh* Oh well.

Good stories I found on here:

Stories by Lysia (Hylians of the Future and Trusting a Traitor)

Stories by Megan O'Shea. The Sister wasn't all that good, but you need to read it to understand the two sequels that ARE good, The Quest and The Tempest. The Tempest isn't over, though... *sob*

Absolute Power by Wizera - OMG, this story was SO original, and so AMAZINGLY written. They obviously know a lot about castles and whatever, where I do... not. I was going to DESTROY my DSi when it didn't have enough memory to save the whole, epicly long story! I had to actually get on a computer to read the rest! XD

Child of Darkness by Lock of Hyrule - also not done. This was the first story I read on here, too. Well... the first story that was GOOD.

Sharmani's Revenge - only good if you read the Chronicles of Narnia.

And, um, hmm... I'm SURE there were more... but I don't remember. Wow, I must have too much time on my hands to post all those links. XD

OKAY! But, well, I couldn't find any other good stories on this site after a while. I read some interesting ones, but none of them were really good enough to make it to my list of epicness, mentioned above. XD So I had to find a new website.

Tnaz juuuuust so happened to come into my life at that moment. And when he was over at our house one day, he forced me to read two stories on another fanfic website, Fan Fiction.net. One of the stories he made me read was about Zelda breaking up with Link for Marth, and the other was Link dying. O_o

And THEN he told me to read his own story, based on Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

It was VERY good. He's an epiclatastical author. However... he KILLED OFF LINK! He just LOVES making Link hurt, doesn't he? Geez! Oh, AND he killed Toon Link. And Zelda. AND Pikachu, which is my BACK-UP character for when I don't play as Zelda ones in Brawl!

NOT. COOl. >.<

'Specially since Link was the one who killed Pikachu, Zelda, and Toon Link. And Ike, but we don't care about him. XD It's a long story. Read it if you want to know why Link is killing everyone. :P

Luckily, I THINK I made a pact with him to bring the Zelda characters back! ...Or at least Toon Link, 'cuz he's the bestest. I gave him a Uxie Pokemon card for his promise to make Toon Link come back to life.

THEN I got addicted to Fan Fiction.net. :D

First story I read was Cheers, which he recommended to me as another SSBB fanfic - and let me tell you, this was NOT giving me a good outlook on this website. Link died in that one, too. And Ganondorf. And Pikachu. And, oh, EVERY character that was in that story. That would include the three above characters, and Peach, Luigi, Fox, and Falco. I think I'm starting to get an idea of the kinds of stories Tnaz likes. -.-

Second was Darkside of Power. Another recommended by him. No one died in it. Yay! :D Main character was Toon Link. Double yay! :DD It was short. Noes! O:

By then, I'd decided to stop listening to him. He only read Pokemon and SSBB fanfics, anyway, not Zelda ones. I wanted ZELDA!

...And I went off looking on my own.

I remember the titles of the stories I first read, and it's not like they were BAD stories or anything... but they were just OKAY stories. Not insanely awesome. Like my second list of epicness I will give you below. Sadly, they will not have links. I can only view these stories on my DSi - the actual website has advertisements that give our computer viruses. >.<

The below stories are in order by awesomefulisticalazing to slightly less awesomefulisticalazing. :P

Zelda: A Fairytale. If you're like me and LOVE old-fashioned fairy tales with princesses and such, this is the most awesome story you'll EVER find. It's based on Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty, and I LOVED it.

The Return and Reconciliation by Rose Zemlya. Oh. Em. Gee. How the heck can someone be so totally INCREDIBLE at writing, especially in the point of view of a video game character that really didn't have much in the way of personality during the games, and make it so long it took me days to finish, and kept me entertained that whole time? READ THESE STORIES. The type of voice reminds me of... Pendragon. Those novels are awesome. And kinda Percy Jackson, too. But this is BETTER than Percy Jackson (maybe). I love Link in this story, though - he's so sarcastic. Gotta love a sarcastic hero. XD (But ignore the swearing - I don't like it either, but at least it's funny.) Reconciliation is The Return's sequel. READ THEM. NOW.

The Hero of Wolves by The Wolfess. Again: *gasps in awe at epicness* This was the first "AWESOME" story I read on fanfic.net. And I was, like, AMAZED. I want to write like this! Badly! Very, very, very, very, very badly! It was just updated on Friday, too, so I know this isn't one of those stories where someone writes for a while, then gives up! This story is based on Twilight Princess. I think I really like this, again, because of Link's personality. He's like a wolf. Wolves are epic. :D But, like... wow. Read this one, too. After The Return and Reconciliation. ;)

The Silent Kingdom by Freedan the Eternal. I didn't think much of this one at first, but the more and more I think about it, the more I realize I really enjoyed it. There was some content in it that was not... suitable to little children. XD And it would never get on Central, lolz. Too much swearing. But if you can ignore that part, it's pretty good. I love how they introduced SO many new concepts - five new countries, and entirely new CONTINENT, the concept of spells and magic, the races of elves and Dra'thul (dark elves), the golems (lol, you can guess that made me think of Golem Tower in W101), and all sorts of amazingly original stuff. Except maybe elves. Not exactly original. :P But whatever.

Fate Favors the Fearless by Freyjadour. Um, this was a bit violent, lolz! But I like the whole history they've made up of the Ordonians and their relationship with Hyrule. I mean, where the heck do they get this from? I didn't see ANY evidence in the game that Hylians didn't like Ordon, nor that Ordon was a war village. Seemed more like the boring, sleepy ranch town, hehe. This story hasn't been updated in a while, though. :(

Parallel Symphony and Parallel Hearts by Firebird-X. Parallel Symphony was AMAZING. ...Parallel Hearts was okay. It seemed more like a Super Smash Bros. fanfic to me, though. I mean, where does Samus come in in Twilight Princess? Or Mega man? Or - what the heck - SMASH BALLS? And since when are Wind Waker Link and Twilight Princess Link in the same game (although I reeeeally liked that part - WW Link pwns!!!)?

I can't really think of others that were super incredible. I just starting reading a new one called Legacy of the Sages by Kerian Halcyon. Looks promising. :D For others that were pretty good by not good enough for the epicness list, look at my favorites on fanfiction.net. My pen name is TwilightWakerofTime.

Oh, and honorable mention to Pirates of the Seas. You'd be on this list if there weren't minor swearing (even though above stories had it too) and the chapters were longer and more frequent. XD

Phew.

That's a post I've been wanting to write for a loooong time.

It was FUN to write. :D

Oh, one thing! I... am OFFICALLY GOING TO WRITE MY OWN FAN FICTION. I can't stand reading other people's (ooookay, yes I can :D) and not have my own! I just need an idea for a setting. Should it be Ocarina of Time based, or Twilight Princess? How old should Link be? If it's OoT, should Navi be there (I've struggled with this for SO long... you can imagine why. I want her to be, but Idk how to explain her disappearence at the end of OoT)? If it's TP, should Midna be there (again, HOW would she be there, anyway)? *sigh* I wrote an AWESOME prologue, though. ...Ooh! I should post it here!!! Maybe I will. I really like the prologue, but... I can't begin the first chapter. I really don't know where I was going with the prologue, I just sort of started writing it. Btw, the fanfic would be called "The Blade of Evil's Bane," and it would be about, um, something happening to the Master Sword so Link can't use it to defeat Ganondorf when he returns. Idk what will happen, yet. That's just a breif overview, brought to you by Timeless! :D

Okay. Enough typing. I gtg to bed. ...And read more fan fiction. If anyone has any suggestions, feel free to tell them to me! :D
